  21st Century Stem Trailer Visits Garden County School By Abigail Loyd, Victor Rueda, Blake Dean, Thomas Griffin, and Rainee Olson      On March 17th, Jason Strapman brought the 21st Century Stem Trailer to visit our Garden County Jr/Sr High School, to teach our Jr High School students about STEM in agriculture. He taught us how to wire pivots, how they are using drones to help farmers watch over their crops and animals, as well as teaching us about some new technology they are using for tractors. Then he taught us how to take lug nuts off of a tire, then put them back on.      New technology and newer generation are helping the older generations of farmers. 21st Century said in 2030 the goal is to have half of the farms they service running autonomous tractors. Garden County FFA Prepares for the 95th Nebraska State FFA Convention

  The Garden County FFA plans to attend the 95th Nebraska State FFA Convention from March 29 through March 31, 2023.  Students will compete in Career Development Events and Leadership Development Events during the convention.  Members will also attend sessions in which our chapter or chapter members will be recognized.  These recognitions include Nebraska FFA State Degree awardees, Farm Bureau Connecting Chapters Recognition, Agriscience Fair participant recognition, and the top ten individuals and top five teams in each event.  Congratulations to the nineteen chapter members that have qualified to compete.

Loomis and Dehning Qualify for NJAS Science Fair

            Chanley Placed 1st and Kenley placed 2nd at our School Science Fair, qualified to compete at the Nebraska Junior Academy of Science Panhandle Regionals. The 2023 Regionals were held in Scottsbluff on March 7th. They had a full day at the Harms Advanced Technology Center on the Western Nebraska Community College campus, getting judged, learning about fossils, and looking through a virtual reality headset. They also got Domino's Pizza for Lunch! Chanley placed 3rd and Kenley placed 6th at Regional Science Fair now get to go to the Nebraska Junior Academy of Science State Science Fair in Lincoln on April 20th.  Chanley says, “My project was… Do Water Balloons Bounce? Garden County FFA Competes at this Year's Last District CDE Event

On March 1 the Garden County FFA Chapter traveled to Kimball for the last District Career Development of this school year.   The members' next competition will be the Nebraska State FFA competition in Lincoln, March 29 through March 31. The Agriculture Biotechnology Team earned a red ribbon with their third-place finish.  The team consisted of Kade Collins, Carter Dormann, Gunner Roberson, and Zeke Christiansen.  Zeke received a blue ribbon, Kade and Gunner both received red ribbons.  In this competition, the students are required to identify 25 objects used in biotechnology, a 50 questions test on biotechnology, and a practicum.  This year's theme was to develop a genetic engineering plan for GalSafe Pigs.  These pigs are genetically engineered so that organs can be used in human transplants, and the red meat is safe to eat for individuals with an alpha-gal allergy.  This allergy prevents people from eating red meat.
