GC FFA October Happenings by Garden County FFA Reporter Karma Peterson

Our annual fruit sales will be kicked off on Monday, October 23rd, with sales ending on November 16, 2023. We will have a variety of fruits, meats and cheeses, and popcorn. All the goodies you may need for a fall evening or a little something extra around Thanksgiving. Please reach out to one of our FFA members or order online https://forms.gle/YtYj4t3jjK5wfYXZ7.

In other exciting news, Todd Filipi, the Resource Conservation Coordinator of North Platte Natural Resource District, received grant money to donate trees to all the counties, and Garden County was fortunate enough to be one of the counties where trees would be placed. Sarah Paisley, Assoc Extension Educator, asked the Garden County FFA Officers to help plant the trees at the Garden County fairgrounds in Lewellen. The Garden County Ag Society asked that the trees be planted in the tree row West of the 4-H cattle barn. A Hackberry tree, Honey Locust tree, Kentucky Coffeetree, and a Northern Catalpa tree were all successfully planted on Friday, October 6, 2023. We look forward to seeing the tree growth from this fall planting.

The 5 sophomore officers, Bre Yates, Ridglyn Stanczyk, Karma Peterson, Carver Corfield, and Logan Levick attended a Connecting Chapters Training in Ogallala on October 9th. This training was hosted by the Nebraska Farm Bureau. The officers had the opportunity to learn and observe how to keep elementary students engaged and interested while members read an agriculture book to the students. The officers also had the opportunity to practice teaching a lesson. Garden County FFA looks forward to teaching our elementary students about agriculture literacy each year.
