Garden County Ag Safety Day Held for 3rd and 4th Graders
By Sarah Paisley

Garden County FFA Chapter in cooperation with the Garden County Extension Office hosted the third annual Garden County Ag Safety Day at the Garden County High School on May 10th.  FFA members planned and presented safety topics throughout the afternoon.  The entire program, including materials, snacks, and t-shirt were funded by the Garden County Turner Board.

To start the day off, Extension Educator, Sarah Paisley, gave a short presentation on the need for agricultural safety and sun safety.  The elementary youth then rotated through the following station topics: Animal Safety, with the help of a goat, duck, chicken, and a dog; tractor safety, with a tractor provided by Ardissono Farms; UTV/ATV safety, with equipment provided by Paisley's; bicycle safety; and environmental safety, learning about snakes, ticks, and weather emergencies as well as how to use 911.  Because of the weather, some of the usual outdoor activities had to be moved inside and few adjustments were made.

The FFA members did an amazing job of preparing and presenting information especially working with the uncooperative weather.  It is always great to see their leadership skills at work!
